Esquimalt Lagoon Stewardship Initiative

Recreational Uses Survey

In 2002, ELSI worked with Royal Roads University to assess current recreational uses and their associated impacts on plants and animals at the Coburg Peninsula and the Esquimalt Lagoon. The project involved public surveys of nearby residents, recreational user groups and visitors to the lagoon, a quantitative survey of the distribution and abundance of plant communities along the Coburg Peninsula and an assessment of areas of high human use. This information will be used to develop recommendations for a sustainable recreation plan that will protect and enhance the ecological values of the lagoon while providing a diversity of recreational opportunities for visitors.
