Community Fish Monitoring Program
Congratulations!

In May 2008 ELSI was presented with an award from the Fisheries and Oceans Canada for "5 years of outstanding services to the fisheries resource in Canada and dedicated support of the Habitat Enhancement Program". Since 2004, ELSI volunteers have been conducting a Community Fish Monitoring Program on a number of the creeks that flow into Esquimalt Lagoon.
The goal of the program is to determine the types of fish that are using the creeks and to assess the restoration potential for the creeks. At the end of 2007, ELSI produced a report consolidating data collected from 2004 through to 2007. The fish monitoring has confirmed that there are resident populations of cutthroat trout throughout Bee Creek and in the lower reaches of Colwood Creek. Coho salmon fry were found regularly in Colwood Creek.
