Volunteer Opportunities
The ELSI partners have many projects and initiatives that offer visitors and residents an opportunity to get involved. Have a look below at the many opportunities to get involved. If you are interested in volunteering for one of our projects please contact the ELSI Coordinator by email or at 250-360-3299
dog-on-leash information outreach
Colwood has recently enacted an on-leash bylaw for the Migratory Bird Sanctuary at Esquimalt Lagoon. Volunteers are needed to hand out free leashes and help inform dog owners visiting the lagoon that their pets need to be on a leash on Coburg Peninsula and also to advise dog owners of the newly created off-leash area south of the washrooms.
broom bash
The ELSI partners conduct annual removal of the invasive Scotch Broom from Coburg Peninsula. Get on our contact list to be informed of the next opportunity to help us remove invasive species on Coburg Peninsula.
Dune Restoration
Volunteers are periodically needed for the ELSI pilot Dune Habitat Restoration project.
Work includes monitoring vegetation transects, removing invasive species from the restoration areas and planting native dune plants.

Thank you Volunteers!
Year 2: ELSI Dune Habitat Restoration project was another successful year! In 2008 we had 37 volunteers that gave a total of 129 hours of their time to plant 843 plants and weed out lots of Scotch broom!
